OGC Service as Action

Core Value: Social Responsibility

An OIS Core Value: Social Responsibility

"We value that the individual has the ability to change the world and the group has the power to make this a reality."

Hello and Welcome to the SAA Home Page!

At Oberoi, all students will commit to some kind of Service Learning experience. This is part of the IB Expectations in the MYP Programme and is one of our school's Core Values: Social Responsibility.

  • In Middle School (Grades 6-8), students will participate in at least one Curriculum Driven Service Learning (CDSL) experience each school year. This type of Service Learning is embedded into our curriculum.  If students are interested in initiating stand-alone service projects, we do support and encourage their efforts in that as well.
  • In High School (Grades 9-10), students undertake Student-Initiated Service as Action (SISA) in addition to at least one Curriculum-Driven Service Learning experience each year.  These student-initiated projects may be short or long term, school-based or community/globally-based, and may explore the same or varied interests each year.

Our focus this year is "Making Caring Common"

We look forward to working with you!

  • Mr. Kumar, Grades 9-10 Coordinator

Why is Service as Action Important?

  • Provides students with opportunities to help the school, and local and/or international communities
  • Helps students apply academic, personal, and social skills to improve communities
  • Develops an awareness of how to make a positive difference in the lives of others
  • Encourages responsible citizenship by increasing a student's understanding about the world
  • Allows each student to discover new skills, talents, and interests
  • Helps students develop as leaders who take initiative

Service as Action is a foundational element of the Middle Years Programme.

It seeks to develop caring members of the community who act to make a positive difference in the lives of others and their environment. SAA requires students to engage with their local community through community or personal projects and provides opportunities for students to explore, design, implement, and reflect on their efforts to positively impact their local environment. Through service as action experiences, students learn the value of community participation and gain a deeper understanding of the issues facing their immediate surroundings.
