When citing any image, credit the person who created the image whenever possible. Sometimes it is hard to find out who created images on the internet. If you cannot locate the original creator of the image, cite the image WHERE YOU FOUND IT (the webpage, website).
However, when referring to an image of a piece of ARTWORK, you must cite the creator and the location where you found the image.
Formatting Citations for Artwork:
- Use a caption under the image of the artwork with the information about the piece. Include the creator, date, media, and physical location (museum/gallery). Use Fig. and a number and be sure to refer to the image in your paper using that Fig. #.
- In the Works Cited, include all of the information about the creator AND include the location of where you found the image (website/webpage). This is an example of using two containers. One is the artwork itself. Include the informatinoa bout the artiwork and end with a period (.). Next include information about where you found the artwork, which is considered a second container. End that information with a period as well.
